So last week, I posted a scathing diatribe nice, friendly little memo to Kate Murray, one Supervisor of the Town of Hempstead and opponent of the Islanders' famed Lighthouse project. Many others had a similar opinion including BD Gallof and Chris Botta, the latter of which broke the story about Murray's memo. If you missed it, here's what happened: Word leaked that Murray was going to start a petition and send a letter to all the folks living in the Town of Hempstead. Not only were people pissed that she was going to use taxpayer monies to do this in these economic times, but she also, you know, crowned the New York Islanders 1984 Stanley Cup Champions (I think I know a few people in Alberta who would not be happy about that).
Today, Chris Botta is reporting that Murray has completely pulled the campaign and will not spend taxpayer money on uselessly killing trees/pleading for stimulus money she will never get. She is now in "let's stop this suburban development" mode. Here's the money quote:
"Kate Murray is protecting the suburban character of our neighborhoods and standing strong in the face of threats to residential neighborhoods. Overdevelopment will not be permitted at the expense of the suburban tranquility that our families now enjoy."
Yes, protect the suburban character and tranquility of the Papa John's, the gun shop and tattoo parlors of Hempstead Turnpike! Heaven forbid the, um, children who live in the...um... gun shop... be exposed to sprawling urban development!
And, um, where was this "suburban character" spiel when they were building Roosevelt Field Mall and The Source Mall down the street from the Coliseum?
Anyway, the main point of this post was this. I think you might like it. More proof that blogs are taking over, and pwning, the world.
