NBC thinks nobody lives west of the Mississippi

Awful Announcing branched out from their critique of awful announcing to bring us a look at some awful programming decisions. NBC released their preliminary TV schedule for the NHL season last week, and it has a very distinct East Coast bias. It also has the bias of a major corporation that hasn't really followed hockey for a few seasons. To wit: Of the 22 games scheduled on NBC, 6 of them involve Western Confernece teams. Of those 6, only 1 involves teams that aren't Detroit or Chicago. That game is between Dallas and Colorado, which would have been awesome about 5 years ago.

Don't even ask about Canadian teams. What does Canada have to do with hockey? Call me when Saskatoon gets a team.

But hey, enjoy your hockey on NBC, New York and Boston! Lord knows your other sports teams don't get any coverage.

I always thought all the land west of the Mississippi was a barren wasteland filled with cowboys and indians. The more you know...

It has always been this way.

Versus is the same, and ESPN was before that.
