Hey, great, the Wild picked up a GM. Chuck Fletcher (henceforth called "the Chuckster") was the assistant in Pittsburgh. Let's review the road map to success the Pens followed:
Have bad season, pick second, select Evgeni Malkin.
Have bad season, pick first, select Sidney Crosby.
Have bad season, pick second, select Jodan Staal.
Brilliant! So, since the Wild are simply underwhelming and not bad, does that mean Fletcher will come over here and drive the team into the ground? I'll certainly be cheerng the Wilds last place finish this season, because it will be intentional! I bet Kevin thinks that Garth Snow is a brilliant GM for executing that same strategy. All that said, Fletcher hopped aboard after Malkin and Crosby had been drafted. Fletcher gets to build around the same kinds of guys now, in Stephane Veilleux and Cal Clutterbuck By "same" I mean "exact opposite"
I can't help but think that bringing Fletcher to a team that isn't building from the ground up, but rather is looking to get to the next level, might be the wrong choice. Well, at least Pierre McGuire isn't the GM.
